Easter Musings

Happy Easter, everyone!

Well, this week was a fast one.  It really flew by.  We are still trying to finalize things with the house.  On Friday, we had our general home inspection and our inspector was a hoot to say the least.  I learned alot about home maintenance and the upkeep of an 87-year-old home.

We are at the 24-day-mark 'til closing and I am just hoping and thinking lots of positive thoughts so I don't go crazy until then.  Our FHA appraisor (since we are first-time homebuyers) says that repair work must be done on the detached two-car garage before the loan can be closed.  This is an unexpected hitch, because the home itself is pristine for the most part and, well, we aren't going to live in the garage!  So we are going to work through the process with our awesome realtor this coming week.

Josh and I have recently found a new favorite store.

Home Depot.

My mom used to take me drag me to Home Depot as a child 1) because she is the handiest most fix-it-up lady I know and 2) because she knew it was my most favorite store in the world to go to.

Ok, in reality, I cried when she took me there as a kid.

But now, I love it :)  Josh and I spent about three hours there yesterday taking notes on things we want and will need before and after we move in.

My favorite part, you ask? The PAINT SECTION!

I love colors.  Love, love, love them.  But the most daunting thing for me is knowing that there are zillions of color, texture, and sheen options and I will only have one home!!

Our kitchen is going to need much work.  This is our kitchen now.

The kitchen tile is a sage green and white marble type ceramic tile.  Instead of paying thousands for new cabinets and countertops and demolition andconstruction, my idea is this:

1.  to have new countertops installed
2.  to install tin backsplash myself (with help of my handy mama, of course :)  Here is an example:

3.  to paint the kitchen walls a light sage color
4.  to paint the worn-out kitchen cabinets an off-white (there is unfortunately no hope for refinishing the cabinets as they are 87-years old.
5.  new hardware like this:

...all for a few hundred dollars :) instead of thousands!

I can't wait for some before and (most importantly) some after photos to share with my blogfriends!  I am taking our color pallet book to my mom's tonight so we can get some ideas on living room and dining room paint!
