First, I'll begin by saying that I did not hit the snooze button for a sum total of thirty extra minutes of half-dozing-half-dreaming sleep.
I should follow with the fact that* I did not go to work with my hair still wet because of aforementioned, but completely falsified extra snoozetime.
I didn't get all fired up about comments that a teenager posted on someone's facebook wall about how Americans had no business helping Haiti. I also didn't think it was ridiculous (to say the least) that she appears to have graduated high school two (2) years ago and yet knows more than veterans of this country do about contribution and service.
Additionally, I did not want to jump through the computer and scream at her and maybe even say, "Tsk, tsk, tsk!" in response to her ignorance.
This past weekend, my husband and our two friends and I went out to have dinner and drinks at Rock Bottom, a brewery downtown. After rather large bills came to the table to accompany our empty plates and glasses, we decided to move the party to our house. (Of course, I had cleaned my house that morning from top to bottom, organizing, dusting, mopping--you name it--and it was done. Yip.)
In the midst of a gas station mixer-and-beer-stop (insert college nostalgia here), I would like to tell you readers that I did not leave my husband early to make him ride home with our guests so that I could speed ahead to our home for some last minute cleaning.
(If I had committed such an atrocity, I would have made sure he was ok with that first;)
While not speeding home, exceeding the speed limit and leaving tiremarks on the pavement in my wake, I did not begin to panic at the thought of our first entertaining gig as a married couple ending prematurely as our friends walked in the door only to leave due to our home's unkemptness. No, I kept cool, and did not stoop so low as to stuff random things in random hidden places. It was just too bad that I didn't have time to not vaccuum in the 3 minutes I was home, for they pulled into the driveway shortly thereafter.
They did not get out of the car laughing and commenting about my paranoia. If they had, I would have known it was all in good fun. Good friends are hard to come by. If you don't not-clean before they come over, it turns out that they really don't mind at all!
:)
*Strunk and White are officionados on style. Not fashion style, but writing style. According to their Style rules, the fact that is a phrase that should never be written, typed, uttered, or otherwise communicated. Shame on me for breaking the rule. I could say I didn't do that today. But I mean,
Strunk and White continue to echo in my mind! When you starred "the fact that" I had a feeling you were going to put a footnote about them. I'm glad you had a good weekend :)
ReplyDeleteClicked on over here from MckMama's site. Cute post! I've been guilty of the exact same thing! -Emily
ReplyDeleteLol! I would have tried to do the same thing. Unfortunately, all our friends know I'm not a great housekeeper (I try but the three other people that live here keep messing everything up!).
